Effects of Probiotics on BMI and Fat Percentage

This study aimed to analyse the effects of probiotic supplementation on body weight, body mass index (BMI), fat mass and fat percentage in individuals who were overweight (BMI 25.0-29.9 kg m-2) or obese (BMI ≥ 30 kg m-2).

Results revealed that there was a larger reduction in body weight, BMI and fat percentage in those who were administered probiotics compared with placebo. Nevertheless, the effect sizes were small.

The findings revealed that the effect of probiotics on fat mass were non-significant.
